The Anglican Communion Office launched on September 15, 2025, an environmental advocacy initiative called “Lungs of the Earth,” with a call to action for Anglican churches to restore and protect the planet’s most vital ecosystems. The initiative focuses on three key areas: oceans, forests, and ice caps. Read more on the Anglican Communion Website.
This advocacy campaign is designed to bring together Anglican churches worldwide to champion environmental action. It has been developed in collaboration with Anglican environmental advocates globally, especially with the input of indigenous Anglicans. The initiative will reflect the wisdom, traditions, and sustainable practices of indigenous communities, who have long been at the forefront of caring for the planet. How to Get Involved
The “Lungs of the Earth” initiative calls on Anglicans to become involved in various Anglican Environmental networks, including The Communion Forest, to amplify and champion diverse environmental work and advocacy.
You can become involved in The Communion Forest through various direct actions:
Join our virtual Forest
This is a key action to get involved with The Communion Forest. Our virtual Forest showcases the diverse projects of Anglican churches from around the world using our partner tool, Restor. Sign up on Restor, map your various projects and share the link with us to add them to our Communion Forest Collection. Read More.

Share Your Environmental Passion
Do you have a concern for a particular ecosystem? The Communion Forest is about more than just trees; it’s about conserving, protecting, and restoring all ecosystems—from mangroves and coral reefs to grasslands and wetlands. We are in the process of forming biome groups to connect people across the Anglican Communion who share an interest in a particular region. A biome is a large community of plants and animals that occupies a distinct region. These groups will allow you to share experiences, resources, and prayers with others who care about the same things you do. Connect with us on Communion.Forest@Aco.org.
Share your work
You can also get involved by sharing with us and tagging us on social media on the work you are already doing in tree growing, conserving, protecting, and restoring ecosystems. Tag as @communionforest on Facebook and Instagram and share your stories for the website with photos on Communion.Forest@Aco.org.
If you haven’t yet started on tree growing or ecosystem conservation, protection or restoration, take a look at our Getting Started guide.
