A prayer for Forests provided by Dr. Elizabeth Perry

Creator God,Â
You planted a garden before we built cities,Â
and you filled the earth with trees that are beautiful to behold and generous in their giving.Â
We thank you for forests and woodlands,Â
for their shelter and shade, their fruitfulness and quiet praise,Â
and for the breath of life they share with all creation.Â
Forgive us when we forget that the earth is yours,
when we take without gratitude or wound what you have called good.
Turn our hearts again toward wonder and responsibility,
that we may tend your creation with humility and care.Â
Protect the forests of the world, O Lord –
those ancient and those newly planted.
Guard them from fire, disease, and destruction.
Strengthen all who work to preserve and restore them,
and teach us to live gently upon the earth you love.Â
As the trees of the field clap their hands before you,
and the leaves of the tree of life bring healing to the nations,
make us signs of that healing in our own generation;
rooted in Christ, bearing good fruit,
until all creation rejoices in your kingdom.Â
Through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.Â
Let the trees of the forest sing,
let them sing for joy before the Lord,
for he comes to judge the earth. 1 Chronicles 16:33Â
For you shall go out with joy and be led forth with peace: the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing; and all the trees of the fields shall clap their hands. Isaiah 55:12 Â
Down the middle of the great street of the city. On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations. Revelation 22:2Â
